Our selection of Toys & Games have been chosen to help improve speech and language in children.
Our team collaborate together on a regular basis to ensure that we have the available resources to provide our clients with the tools necessary to aid specific speech and language difficulties.
 The toys and games available at Auckland Speech Institute are based on the seven Speech & Language pyramid categories and these are outlined below:
 
1. Sensory
Sensory toys are Important for getting to know certain textures and feelings, particularly in cases of autism and complex speech disorders.
 
2. Pre-Verbal Interaction
Pre-verbal Interaction toys and games encourage eye contact, turn taking, pointing, cause and effect, symbolism and joint attention.
 
3. Attention & Listening
Attention & Listening toys are to learn about waiting, anticipation and completing short tasks e.g. puzzles.
 
4. Play
Play toys include those that are functional, symbolic and pretend and promote imaginative learning.
 
5. Understanding
Understanding toys are for receptive language and include following instructions or directions and understanding questions.
 
6. Talking
Talking toys are those that promote expressive language using words e.g. vocabulary or using sentences e.g. grammar.
 
7. Social Skills
Social skills toys are for when language is used socially in conversations, body language, collaborative play and perspective talking.
